The benefits of Mum’s & Bub’s Pilates

The Benefits of Mums and Bubs Pilates: Moving Together, Growing Stronger

Motherhood is a transformative journey that brings immense joy, but also physical and emotional challenges. Mums and Bubs Pilates is designed to support you during this time by offering a safe and effective way to rebuild strength, connect with your body, and bond with your baby. I have always loved to exercise and found that there was not a lot available in Central Otago. There are no creches at the gyms, not many people have grandparents locally and the ability for a lot of mums to exercise and get moving after having a baby seems impossible. I saw this as an opportunity to set up a Mums and Bubs class, so whether you're freshly postpartum or a few months in, here are some of the key benefits of joining a Mums and Bubs Pilates class.

1. Rebuild Core and Pelvic Floor Strength

Pregnancy and birth can weaken the deep core muscles and pelvic floor. Mums and Bubs Pilates focuses on gentle, progressive exercises that help restore these areas, improve posture, and reduce the risk of long-term issues such as pelvic floor dysfunction or back pain.

2. Safe Postnatal Movement

All exercises are designed with the postpartum body in mind. Classes are physio-led, ensuring movements are both safe and evidence-based, taking into account birth recovery (whether vaginal or C-section), abdominal separation, and individual needs.

3. Boosts Mental Wellbeing

Exercise has proven benefits for mental health, especially in the postnatal period. Attending a regular class provides a sense of routine, self-care, and emotional uplift. The added endorphins and social support can be a game-changer for mums navigating the early months of motherhood. We all have hard days, sometimes it can feel too hard to leave the house but everyone always highlights they are glad they do and love getting out of the house and connecting with other mothers going through exactly the same thing.

4. Baby-Friendly Environment

One of the best things about Mums and Bubs Pilates? Your baby is welcome! Classes are designed to be flexible and accommodating, whether your little one wants to nap, play, or snuggle. There’s no pressure if you need to stop for a feed, change, or cuddle. I am always on hand to try to entertain, rock or snuggle so it allows you to get the most out of the sessions, some days I need 8 arms!

5. Connection with Other Mums

It can feel isolating in the early stages of motherhood. Mums and Bubs classes offer a relaxed space to connect with other local mums, share experiences, and build a support network—all while doing something great for your body.

6. Improved Posture and Daily Function

Lifting, feeding, and carrying a baby all place strain on your body. Pilates helps improve posture, mobility, and functional strength, so you can move more efficiently and comfortably in everyday life.

7. Encourages Healthy Habits

Getting into the routine of weekly movement not only supports your recovery, but also sets the foundation for lifelong wellness habits. It can be the start of a new, sustainable approach to movement that works for you and your family.

Final Thoughts

Mums and Bubs Pilates is more than just exercise—it’s an empowering way to nurture your body, mind, and bond with your baby. Whether you're rebuilding strength, easing back into fitness, or just looking to get out of the house, these classes offer a welcoming, supportive space for your postnatal journey.

Come as you are, bring what you need for your baby, and enjoy moving with us.

You deserve to feel strong, supported, and seen.
